Reporting: sourced factual coverage reviewed by the editorial desk.

Security firm Straiker says it has traced an AI-coordinated attack system aimed at more than 400 Latin American banks and financial institutions. Its October 21 investigation describes a criminal operation using multiple commercial models to organize work against banks and payment providers.

The firm says its evidence came from the attackers’ own environment, including a September 24 database snapshot. It reports exposed credentials and payment-infrastructure access material. The investigation therefore concerns activity preceding this week’s publication, rather than hundreds of newly confirmed breaches today.

Straiker anonymizes the affected organizations. Its target count should not be read as an independently verified tally of successful bank compromises, customer losses or stolen funds. RailsRecord has not accessed the underlying systems or independently reproduced the findings.

The researchers say indicators were shared with model providers before publication and that Anthropic revoked the credential used to access Claude. Those response details remain attributed to Straiker.

For readers, the central distinction is between authorizing an assistant to help with banking and criminals coordinating attacks with AI. This investigation concerns the latter. It does not establish a connection to the separate PHP security emergency or any specific cryptocurrency loss.
